Overview
Volkswagen engineers just may have been reading Ezra Pound’s 1935 collection of essays “Make It New!” when they laid out plans for the third and final rendition of the VW Alltrack in 2019.
With a lineup of new ADAS — Advanced driver-assistance systems — and adhering to the “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” motto when it comes to basic specs, and the 6-year/ 72,000-mile “People’s Warranty”, they managed to send the Alltrack out with a bang that left us wanting more.
The Basics…again
Engine: 1.8-Liter, Turbo-charged, Inline 4-cylinder with approx. 199 lb-ft. of torque and 170 horsepower on all trims available (“S”, “SE” and “SEL”).
Transmission & MPG: Either a 6-speed automated manual transmission, or a 6-speed manual (standard in “S” & “SE” models) The 2019 “SEL” trim offers a 6-speed manual option for the first time as well. Average MPG stubbornly remained approximately 30 Highway / 22 City.
MSRP: According to Kelly Blue Book, starting MSRP on the 2019 Alltrack base “S” model was $27,790, with the “SE” and “SEL” ranging from $31,390 – to nearly +/-$36,000, respectively. Top model, top dollar.
Upgrades from 2018 model
“A suite of driver-assistance features is now standard on the Golf Alltrack for 2019, including automated emergency braking, forward-collision warning, pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. Upgrading to the mid-range SE model unlocks the available Driver Assistance and Appearance package, which adds: lane-keeping assist, parking sensors, a self-parking feature, and automatic high-beam headlamps. The top-spec SEL can now be ordered with the six-speed manual transmission.”
