Off road bugs

Back in the 80's I used to off-road race with a 1600 cc type 1 engined car. I have long ago strayed away from the sport but wondered if there are still racing classes using the VW air cooled engines?

There is still a separate class for stock Bugs at the Baja 500/ 1000 in Mexico. Haven't been yet. But, it's on my bucket list.
Otherwise, I am unclear as to the extent of current racing.
