Noobie here...

More than any car in the history of automobiles, this was the people's car, built, astoundingly, from 1938 until 2003.

Noobie here...

Post by cowboybob »

Haven't owned a VW since 1970, but I'll contribute what I can .

My one (and only) VW was a totally basic, dull red '64 I bought used in 1968 for USD$600 (don't remember how many miles were on it). It was my first car.

Didn't have it long before the engine coughed out a piece of a valve seat. Long story but in short ended up doing a total rebuild (in my second floor apartment living room). Also redid a lot of the electrics. First mod was a "Z" shaped shifter extension which, of course, made it a whole lot cooler! Learned a ton while I owned it.

Loved that car, but my next one was a new '69 427 Vette convertible. Opposite end of the spectrum and my interest in the bug sort of waned. Frankly,I should have kept them both :x .
