I was re-assigned to Germany around 1965 and upon my arrival, had to have some temporary transportation. As luck would have it, an
outgoingGI was selling a '49 Beetle for $100.00; needless to say, I snapped it up! Loved that car; kept it for three or four month
(until mine arrivedfrom the States), and then sold it for $100.00 to a friend of mine. Within a very short time, he put it into a light
pole, dead center on the frontend, and totaled it. I just about cried - I really loved that car. I have no idea how many miles were on
it but I do know there were a few thousand....

Probably you could get 100,000 for that car today. Even if it was still wrapped around the pole.

Did that car have the flip out turn signals? I had a 1953 when I was in the Air Force that had little indicator lights at the the end of a lever that would flip out of the "B" pillar when the turn signal was on.

They were called semaphores. Standard up until mid 50s depending on where you bought car.
