oh the memories

Post by ebjm »

One of the favorite vehicles of my youth---loved playing in the pop-top camper of my dad's circa 1973 pumpkin-orange VW van.

Lots of VW memories, but one of the best is learning to drive a stick in a VW van my old man was borrowing for some reason.

Mine is flying wellnot exactly flying up a mountain in a 65 hp 1966 camper and thinking that everyone behind me is missing out on all the fun. It was a great original westie that still had the governor under the carb. Have not seen one since.

It would have been a 40-50 HP camper if stock in that year - unless someone boosted it!

Can't find the picture at the moment but a scrapyard in suburban DC recently had an early bus that had been converted to a roadster - yes, the roof was gone - and they had gone to the trouble of rolling the top of the body to make it ...well, I don't know. Had a rollbar, and something like a tent fly for shade. My guess is either they had something they couldn't sell, or cocaine.
