I have a 99 Jetta TDi with 146K miles and it has a rattle that has joined in the rattle symphony I have always heard when idling. It has the DSG/DCT transmsission and It seems there is a dual mass flywheel used in this powertrain.
Do the flywheels fail at that milage?

Thanks

If a DMF is fitted it has done well to reach stated mileage. Most newer cars in Europe only seem to reach about 80,000 miles and the DMF packs in. I didn't think DMF's were available in 1999? If it rattles on start up and shut down it's time to pull the box. I have fitted solid conversion kits to newer VAG cars which lasts a lot longer but can be a tad rougher on tick over. Always order up a rear crank shaft oil seal with clutch kit especially if the DMF has been rough for a while as they usually start to leak with the vibration. Gary.
