Jetta Sports Wagon AC

Post by edrobinson »

Ours is an '11 tdi Sports Wagon. The AC has been falling off for the last 2 summers.

Looking at the exchanger behind the front grill, I find the thing full of bugs and other road debris.

Is there a way to clean it out without taking the entire front end of th ecar apart?

Thanks in advance.

You can try to vacuum the bugs off, but really the absolute best way is to back flush (from back to front) with compressed air. You could also try a bucket of soapy water and SOFT scrub brush and see if that helps out for you. Have you had the system checked out by a reputable VW shop to make sure it hasn't lost some of its charge?

Pressure water gun works well for clogged grill, too.

Both my 2002 and 2003 ACs pump out cold on their factory charge...great systems.

Check charge at AC shop...I run so many cars now it was cost effective for me to buy the manifold and vacuum gauges. I've now done 3 of my own and 7 neighbors cars....paid back in chill....

Thanks for the replies. I have had the sc system checked for loss of refrigerant - good idea.
