2004 Jetta 2.0 w/5spd manual - no reverse

stick shift started feeling stiff and would not easily shift into 1st. Then it would not shift into reverse at all. It is a 2004 Jetta 2.0-liter 5spd manual.

Just got a Bentley manual, but hoping someone can assist the best debug steps, 1st things to look for...

Hi, most likely sorted by now. You can try to reset the linkage putter like part of linkage this usually helps. You can Google this procedure and it's a two minute process. Gary.
