Volkswagens you can’t have: Volume 2 – The Saveiro

Volkswagens have been a part of the American culture for many decades. Despite our cultural familiarity with its various models and our passion for the brand, there are many vehicle models that never even make it to the United States. Another one of these vehicles came into focus recently as we discovered The Volkswagen Saveiro. For a number of years, the Saveiro has been available in Brazil, but it is never been  available here.

This is sort of a micro-mini truck that has two seats and is similar to a Subaru Brat or a small version of the classic El Camino from Chevrolet. This model is based on the VW Gol, which is quite different from the popular and more familiar Golf model.

The vehicle offers three different bed lengths.and optional greater ground clearance for those that have a need for a sporty look.

The question is why did this vehicle never take off here? The answer is that vehicles like this were tried here and did not take off. Think of the Dodge Rampage and as I mentioned, the Subaru Brat. Still, this is a very neat looking car that would be fun to tool on. Maybe somebody can make their own as a project out there.
